Small Business in the Valley

The San Fernando Valley has a great history of successful small businesses and entrepreneurs. With close to 2 million residents, the Valley is a prime location for small businesses to find traction and compete with larger businesses, especially the e-commerce industry. The importance of operating as efficient as possible, is increasing, with companies like Amazon beginning to breathe down the neck, and threatening the livelihood, of many small businesses.

Historically, The San Fernando Valley has been thriving of the film industry in and around Los Angeles. Disney, Warner Bros. and Universal Studios are all located in and around the San Fernando Valley. They have always offered plenty of business to small businesses and created a strong economic engine outside of the manufacturing industry. Like everywhere in the country, this industry, is slowly going extinct.

According to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, “Half of all L.A. County contractors, a third of all business professionals, and many healthcare professionals have Valley addresses.” In addition, there is a strong professional service community, predominantly located in Calabasas, the Warner Center, Burbank and Glendale. The presence of the California State University, Northridge, leads to a large number of potential employees. There is a constant inflow of talent, and competition thrives off of that. Cultural diversity is also a big factor in the success of small businesses across the Valley. Driving along Ventura Boulevard is like traveling around the world, at least on the culinary side.
